In 1933 he came to the United States, where he taught at Black Mountain College for sixteen years. In 1950 he joined the faculty at Yale University as chairman of the department of design. Albers was elected to the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1968 and was professor emeritus of art at Yale until his death in 1976. This “textbook” and the professor who conducted my sophomore introduction to color theory course by assigning the exercises that Albers created has, frankly, enriched my life on this planet. If you are blessed with any sight all, buy it and enter the magic. My experience was almost 45 years ago and I am still conscious and appreciative in both my artistic and daily life of the lessons learned.
